Wanted: the best brick buildings.The Brick Building Initiative (Initiative Bauen mit Backstein) awards the Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture and thus honors special architectural achievements with a particular building material.
The Jury has voted!
With 586 projects submitted almost as many architects participated at the 2020 Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture as there were participants at the last award 2017 – despite the corona pandemic. In September 2020 the judging panels met and chose the Winners 2020. On 17th and 24 th of November the shortlisted projects will be announced – so stay tuned.
The Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture, which was first awarded in 2008, takes place every three years and is one of the largest German architectural awards. It honors projects that use the potential of a traditional building material in a sustainable way to create special, remarkable and sustainable architecture.

Grand Prix 2017: regional state bank Bremen, Caruso St John Architects
The new headquarters of the regional state bank Bremen in the Domhof-Areal in Bremen impressively demonstrates the design potential of brick as a building material. Its huge design refinement and effective craftsmanship are worth the Grand Prix of the Fritz Höger Award 2017 for Brick Architecture in the category “Office and commercial buildings”. Every single detail of the building is an outstanding example of how contemporary urban architecture can look like in a historical context.

In our brick magazine VORTEILE you can find the best projects submitted to the Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture. Twice a year it presents impressive architectural buildings from the competition, documented in a professional and high quality manner.
